Blue sage, also known as "azure blue," "grandmother sage" or "pitcher sage," is a member of the mint family. It's a distinctive perennial herb that is named for its autumn production of blue flowers and hint of blue color in its leaves.
It's a close relative of white sage and has a wonderful herbaceous, floral fragrance, similar to lavender. The aroma is less assertive than white sage and is perfect for those who prefer a gentler, less potent smell.
Blue sage has a wide a range of uses in holistic medicine applications, but in the form of smudge sticks, they are primarily used for healing and cleansing in homes, rituals, ceremonies and meditation areas. Blue sage is often combined with white sage for purification and protective spiritual properties.
